Wilbur Mansion

Transforming a neglected 1864 gem into a boutique hotel, event venue, and restaurant

Lehigh Valley Top Project, 2024

Location: Bethlehem, PA

Client: John and Lynn Noble

Date Completed: 2022

Our firm was hired to design the restoration of this Gothic-revival style mansion, once owned by former Lehigh Valley Railroad president E.P. Wilbur. Right away, we were captivated by the architectural details of the mansion’s interior—practically untouched since Wilbur’s time.

Envisioning the mansion’s restoration as part of a larger restoration and development project that would incorporate adjoining properties, the client concluded that transforming the mansion into a boutique hotel and restaurant would best showcase the building’s fine craftmanship and unique character.

Adapting the mansion for this new use required adding modern amenities for safety and comfort without detracting from the building’s historic features. Additions included bathroom updates for the mansion’s nine residential suites and a modern staircase that descends unobtrusively from the main floor into the basement.
